Event Description:
District 64 helps students become knowledge-ABLE learners, ready for the future

Students today need to be knowledgeable, but more importantly, they must be “knowledge-ABLE” to meet the demands of a rigorous curriculum and the opportunities ahead in high school, college and as future members of a global society. What does this look like in our classrooms today?

Dr. Laurie Heinz will share with you how teachers use high impact instructional strategies to provide students with the tools they need to continue to learn and master content while tackling new challenges. Students today also are immersed in the 4 C’s, with daily opportunities to collaborate, communicate, be creative, and use critical thinking to problem solve. And increasingly District 64 students are introduced to real-world problems to investigate. This “inquiry-based” learning motivates students to gain the knowledge they need to solve these interesting problems. This year, District 64 introduced a new K-5 science curriculum aligned with the Next Generation Science Standards that immerses students in thinking like a junior scientist, engineer, biologist or other researcher as they learn science principles and practices.

Come hear Dr. Heinz -- a dynamic educational leader -- share what this teaching and learning looks like in action and how Park Ridge-Niles District 64 is working to help make students not only future-ready learners, but leaders.
